Rousteing transformed Balmain from a French atelier into a global couture house. His career as creative director at Balmain began at 25 in 2011. He was named the youngest creative director, apart from the founders, since Yves Saint Laurent for Dior, and the first Black person to lead the design at a French heritage house.

Rousteing describes his time as creative director for Balmain as “a love story, a life story” in his official Instagram statement.

“I arrived at 24 with my eyes wide open and the determination to persevere, always.”
