The Best Vintage & Thrifting in NOLA

If you go to Tulane and you shop exclusively online from your dorm, I am embarrassed for you (every time I see a Parke or Alo sweatshirt in class, I want to leave). But seriously, take advantage of the vintage you can find in New Orleans while you’re at Tulane and avoid shopping kids’ sections!!

Sharing my favorite thrifting in NOLA for my friends, friends of friends, and those of you who can actually dress at Mardi. You know who you are…

1. RED WHITE AND BLUE

My top choice for thrifting in NOLA is Red White and Blue because every time I leave with a DKNY, Ann Taylor, or Charlotte Russe tank top for under $10.

The first time I went there, a roach jumped out of a pair of pants, and I still had to buy them. They were $3. Hopefully, when you go you have a better time. (I cried).

They have sales everyday. Basically nothing is over $15 except shoes and bags.

Locations:

5728 Jefferson Hwy and 605 Lapalco Blvd (far from Tulane without a car but there is an Asian supermarket close to this one and really good Thai food)

2. GOODWILL

There are a bunch of Goodwill locations, but the closest to Tulane is 3400 Tulane Ave, and in my opinion, Red White and Blue is usually better.

3. SALVATION ARMY

I found a Vintage Ralph Lauren tee and Unionbay shorts for $4 each at the Salvation Army on Jefferson Hwy on my way home from the Ochsner Medical Center my sophomore year.

4. VAGABOND VINTAGE MAGAZINE

Great for vintage Harley tees and Levi’s cut off shorts. A little bit pricier than the thrifts, but still not charging as much as LES and Soho.

3033 Magazine St

5. BRIDGE HOUSE THRIFT

Bridge House is great for furniture shopping your junior or senior year when you are living off campus. It’s pretty close to the Goodwill on Tulane ave.

4243 Earhart Blvd

6. OUT OF THE CLOSET

This location is not as great as the ones in New York City, but you can still find some designer pieces at great prices.

2900 Magazine St

7. FUNKY MONKEY

A little bit pricier than the thrifts, but Funky Monkey has great vintage costumes and accessories, I like going before Halloween and Mardi.

3127 Magazine St

8. MISS CLAUDIA’S VINTAGE CLOTHING & COSTUMES

Claudia’s is similar to Funky Monkey, but you can find more vintage dresses and slips here and they have less of a men’s selection.

4204 Magazine St.

9. BIG STAR

Everyone’s favorite Freret shop, I love their belts and vintage skirt selection.

5302 Freret St.

10. SWAMP RAGS

927 Royal St.

11. 90’s KID’s CLOSET

5706 Magazine St.

12. MAGPIE

Great vintage jewelry selection, you can sometimes find designer here and there is a sale section in the back by the fitting rooms.

4529 Magazine St.

13. BUFFALO EXCHANGE

4119 Magazine St.

14. PEACHES RECORDS

4119 Magazine St.

15. SWAP BOUTIQUE

3822 Magazine St.

16. VINTAGE MARKET BY TRASHY DIVA

Definitely more expensive than others, but Trashy Diva has a wide range of sizes and styles of vintage dresses and jewelry.

1920 Magazine St.

17. FACTORY OF WEIRD

I love browsing here and sometimes I leave with a bangle or necklace. They have a small vintage clothing and costume selection as well.

1228 Decatur St.

18. VICE & GRAFT

927 Royal St.
