The Web Team’s Favorite Fall Reads
As the New Orleans weather reaches the low fifties, the best way to take a study break is to curl up with a good book. On November 9th, the TU Fashion executive team hosted a photoshoot at Trumpet and Drum with members from CORE (Tulane’s print fashion magazine) and Crescent (Tulane’s online lifestyle magazine).
Fashion thrives on observation. Observation of people, of history, of ourselves, of our preferences. While observation of others is not necessary for one's self-expression, trends are derived from years of creative directors' designs trickling down into fast-fashion until eventually, if popular enough, they are what most would say are “overdone” or “ripped off”. A great way to observe, not by observing these trends, and to prevent yourself from looking “overdone”, is to READ!
Reading, not just about fashion, but reading in general, gives us perspective on trends that exist in other aspects of our lives that are not our closets. They give us a perspective on aspects of our emotions that are not often conveyed to us on our feeds.
This fall, we introduce you to TUFashion’s first official recommended reading list.
The Web Team’s favorite fall reads are about seeing the world differently, and maybe dressing a little differently because of it. So find your quiet corner, choose a book from our list, light a candle, let this fall be your season of thought… and let those thoughts influence your style.
